Without the extensive commitment that parents make to CCNS by providing hands-on expertise and old-fashioned elbow grease, the school we know and love would not exist. Once your child walks into our little red schoolhouse, you are making a conscious choice to become actively involved in his or her preschool education. This is what we refer to as the Cooperative Difference.

Members of our community are required to fulfill three Cooperative Obligations during a school year, which are listed below. In addition, you will have ample opportunity to engage with your child in his or her classroom. Parents are routinely invited to participate in scheduled activities, read a story to the class or share a special hobby or tradition of their own.

Each family is required to serve either on The Board of Officers and Trustees or become a member of a committee. The Board of Officers and Trustees is the policy making body of CCNS. Board members also work to plan special events, fund-raisers and support services for the school and staff. The Board meets one evening per month to formally address school business.

Committee members also work on planning events, and providing support services, though they do not necessarily have leadership responsibility. There are more than 20 committees at CCNS; all of which have been designed to fulfill a particular need of our school and/or community. Examples of committees include Newsletter, Fundraising, Hostessing or Maintenance & Landscape. Members could expect to dedicate about 20 volunteer hours to their committee throughout the year.

CCNS relies heavily on fundraising dollars in order to remain the dynamic pre-school we are. All members are asked to work at one fundraising event per year. Types of events include our signature festivals and fairs, as well as the adult-oriented auctions and outings. Our fundraising calendar will change annually.

One parent from each CCNS family is required to attend one Scrub-Up session held on Saturday mornings periodically throughout the school year. The main purpose of this day is to sanitize the toys the children are playing with in an attempt to maintain a healthy environment.

Upon acceptance, all parents will be asked to provide a $150 membership bond. The bond is refunded - or rolled-over if your child will attend class the following school year - after successful completion of your cooperative obligations.
